Business Learning Project China

Starting in 2012, GBI has been working with national and international partners to engage private and state-owned Chinese companies on human rights and responsible business.

We co-convened a first of its kind event series in Beijing, bringing together business participants on sustainable business and human rights. The event series was entitled “Sustainable Business and Investment in the Global Context: Rights, Risks and Responsibilities” and was held in April 2013.

GBI and partners also convened a case-study based project to explore companies’ human rights impacts in diverse geographies and across industries. GBI, the Peking University International Law Institute, the Beijing Rong Zhi Corporate Responsibility Institute and Tracktwo brought together 10 companies for a learning seminar and bilateral meetings. Participating companies included BASF, China Minmetals, COSCO, CPI Yunnan, Flex, General Electric, HP, Shell, Sinosteel and the Coca-Cola Company.

We also supported a pilot year of the China Responsible Business Forum (CRBF) which engaged Chinese and multi-national companies in workshops in Stockholm, Beijing and Shanghai. The CRBF was an initiative of the Global Compact Network China, the Institute for Human Rights and Business, Peking University International Law Institute and the Guanghua School of Management, Tracktwo and GBI. GBI continues to convene members’ session, webinars and provide briefings on the latest developments and trends on business and human rights in the Chinese context with our leading regional experts Malin Oud and Liang Xiaohui.
