In 2016, GBI, the National Business Initiative (NBI) and the Global Compact Network South Africa (GCNSA) convened a business-to-business meeting on corporate respect for human rights. The conference was attended by over 100 business leaders and other experts. We heard insights into human rights challenges, opportunities and approaches by several companies including Total, AngloGold Ashanti, The Coca-Cola Company, Lonmin, AngloAmerican and Vale. 

The meeting showcased experiences and perspectives on how companies are navigating and managing human rights challenges in South Africa. Discussions explored how human rights in democratic South Africa are being integrated into the economic sphere (and the role of companies in this), and how the realisation of rights contributes to resilient economies and well-functioning companies.
