Alan worked with GBI in planning and staging the Business Leaders’ Dialogue on Corporate Respect for Human Rights in Johannesburg in 2016. He became an advisor to the GBI in 2018.
In his work first at AngloGold Ashanti and then as a consultant to the mining industry, he has worked, among other things, with companies on implementing the UNGPs and with the Minerals Council South Africa on developing a Human Rights Framework for implementation by members.
He was previously a journalist for 18 years focused on politics, labour matters and public policy, and before that a trade unionist for eight years. It was this that first piqued his interest in human rights and the complexities of transitional justice.
