Andrea Biswas Tortajada is a director at GBI, spearheading the Member Peer Learning programme and fostering constructive dialogue and critical thinking among our member companies to uphold human rights. She is particularly interested in exploring the intersection between business practices and indigenous groups, generational relay in rural communities, LGBTIQ+ rights, living wages, unionisation, and accountability. Concurrently, Andrea continues to pursue her PhD at the Geneva Graduate Institute, focusing on discursive power and surrogate accountability in the agricultural sector.

Prior to GBI, Andrea held positions as a sustainability and human rights practitioner at Nestlé and Nespresso. She has also worked for the UNDP, the Government of Gujarat in India, the National University of Singapore, and UNITAR. Her work has encompassed governance, sustainability, socioeconomic indicators, women's empowerment, and sustainable supply chains and food systems, with experiences spanning Mexico, Colombia, India, Singapore, Cambodia, and Ethiopia. Andrea holds a double major in Political Science and Economics from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Master's degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
