Gerald Pachoud

Senior Advisor

Gerald is an experienced policy expert with a long history at the intersection of international affairs, corporate responsibility, and public policy. He is currently the Managing Partner of Pluto & Associates, where he advises businesses, governments, international organisations, and civil society on responsible business practices and global public policy challenges and opportunities. In addition, he is Professor of Practice at SOAS University of London, School of Law, where he contributes to teaching and research on business, human rights, and international governance.

As an advisor to the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights (GBI), Gerald bridges the worlds of policy and practice, bringing his experience advising multinational corporations and public institutions on responsible business conduct, corporate sustainability, and the governance of complex global risks.

Previously, he served as Special Advisor to Professor John Ruggie, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Business and Human Rights. In this role, Gerald helped shape the conceptual, political, and strategic aspects of the mandate, playing a central part in the development of the landmark “Protect, Respect and Remedy” Framework and the drafting of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

Gerald’s career also includes senior roles at the United Nations, where he advised the Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Planning on the UN’s engagement with external actors, particularly the private sector, in the areas of human security, human rights, conflict prevention, and peacebuilding. Gerald holds a Master’s degree in International Law from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva.
