, GBI is pleased to announce the latest guidance briefing in the” What “good” looks like” series. Drawing on over 16 years of practice-based insights from our work with companies implementing human rights due diligence (HRDD) under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), this series aims to share practical lessons from business experience. It is designed to support both companies and policymakers as they navigate growing expectations and requirements for meaningful human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD).
Our latest guidance briefing on identifying and addressing human rights risks and impacts focusses on the essential first step of HRDD. The guidance briefing shares insights from practice about what effective approaches to identify and address human rights risks should look like, as well as examples of good practice.
Specifically, the guidance briefing explores:
- Why identifying and addressing human rights risks across the value chain is essential
- How companies can modify existing risk management systems to include risks to people
- Examples of identifying risks beyond tier one and downstream
Lastly, the guidance briefing includes considerations for policymakers about how to approach identifying and addressing human rights risks in mandatory HREDD legislation that aligns with the UNGPs and is focussed on preventing or mitigating risks to people throughout the value chain.
