GBI is pleased to announce the launch of a new series of guidance briefings and webinars on “What “good” looks like”. Drawing on over 16 years of practice-based insights from our work with companies implementing human rights due diligence (HRDD) under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), this series aims to share practical lessons from business experience. It is designed to support both companies and policymakers as they navigate growing expectations and requirements for meaningful human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD).
The first publication in the series focuses on meaningful stakeholder engagement – a cornerstone of effective HRDD and a vital element for companies committed to embedding human rights into their operations and decision-making. Based on company practice, the briefing outlines what makes engagement with stakeholders and rightsholders meaningful, and how it offers a framework for practical action that goes beyond compliance and towards genuinely rights-respecting business conduct.
From inclusive dialogue and building trust to transparency and long-term relationship building, the guidance outlines key principles and practices. This is supported by a case study which underscores key methodologies to achieve better outcomes for impacted people. The series also provides insights for policymakers as they shape HREDD legislation, including discussions on the EU Commission’s Omnibus proposal and its impact on the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). It highlights why engagement must be embedded as a continuous process, and how legislation can foster accountability and effectiveness through clear guidance, enforcement, and support for capacity building.
To accompany the launch, GBI will host a webinar on 22 April for companies and policymakers on meaningful stakeholder engagement. We invite all interested to join us in this discussion.
